If you want to grow your social media following, the first thing you need to do is find your niche! So, what even is a niche?
A niche is similar to your theme. So, what you’ll be talking about and sharing on your blog as well as other social medias. What exactly are you going to be talking about in your blog? What audience are you trying to reach? What value will you provide? What problems do you fix?
niche = denoting or relating to products, services, or interests that appeal to a small, specialized section of the population
In other words, FIND YOUR TRIBE! Connect with people who have similar interests as you and find a way to either help them with that common interest or bond with them over that common interest! People will follow you BECAUSE of your niche, so find one that is true to you and stick to it! Whether you’re a foodie, mommy, world traveler, photographer, yogi, mental health advocate, or fashion blogger, there truly is an Instagram niche for everyone. You just need to find it! Here are a few tips to help you do just that!
Ask yourself:
Table of Contents
What Do You Like?
What brings you joy? What are you passionate about? What topic gets you excited to talk about? What do you love creating content about? The first step in figuring out your Instagram niche is deciding what you genuinely care about and what comes easy to you to discuss. If you can have fun doing this it’ll be so much easier!
For me, I absolutely love travel, beauty, social media tips, and event planning . I could talk any of those topics for HOURS. But if you asked me to write a blog post about computer programming 1) I’d have absolutely no idea where to start + 2) I’d be bored out of my mind!
And don’t worry, it’s totally okay at first to try out a few niches and figure out which one suits you best! Your niche will also probably change as you grow and change. For instance, if you have a baby your niche will probably change to include posts about being a mom! If you’re a travel blogger and now you have kids your niche may go from being about romantic destinations for couples to fun destinations the whole family can enjoy!

Who Do You Want To Help?
Who is your target market? Who are you talking to in your posts? Most importantly thing about who do you want to help? This could be working moms, newbie bloggers, budget travelers, or even college students.
Next think about about who are the type of people you want to connect with and the kind of community you want to create. Think about what type of people you generally gravitate towards and who you enjoy being around!
Hint: your target market will probably be pretty similar to you!
What Value Can You Provide?
What can you teach others about your passion? Creating content doesn’t just mean posting a photo or uploading a video. Why would someone take the time to watch your video/read your post? What value are you giving them? Is it knowledge? Entertainment? Inspiration?
Consider what people ask you, DM you, and respond to in your comments. What advice are they seeking? What are they coming to you for? What products are they asking about? What do they show interest in?
Think about what problems your target market might have. For instance maybe your audience wants to grow their following and start working with brands but doesn’t know where to start. Or maybe they want to find cheap travel destinations near them.
Your niche should be something that you’re passionate and can have fun with that is also helpful for others because your end goal is to monetize it!
What Makes You, You?
And finally, put your own spin on it – add your personality to make it unique! What makes YOU different from the millions of other people who are in the same niche as you? MOST IMPORTANTLY: Don’t forget to have a little fun with it!
