Ever wonder how your favorite bloggers and influencers always have fun, colorful backgrounds in their Instagram photos? Well, here’s a secret… sometimes they add it! Adding color to or changing the color of the background of Instagram photos is one of my favorite editing secrets! Its an easy way to make your photos pop and keep your aesthetic consistent! Here’s a step by step guide on how to do this on Adobe Lightroom and Lightroom Mobile:⠀
Step 1. Upload your photos to Lightroom and then apply your preset and any other edits you want. You want your edits to be finalized before you make any change to your background, otherwise the color of your background will change as you make new edits.⠀
Step 2. Choose the selective option on the far left of your tool bar.⠀
Step 3. Click the + at the top left of your screen and select the paintbrush. The two other options here, a circle and a square, are useful for solid background, but for more specific editing the paintbrush is your best bet!
Step 4. Adjust the size and intensity of your brush to your liking and fill in the area you want to color. For wide open spaces a bigger brush size will make your edit much easier but for smaller more specific areas, like the edges, you’ll want a smaller more precise brush.
Step 5. Correct any mistakes with the eraser. I always make sure to go through and clean up the edges so that it looks nice and crisp when once the color is changed.
Step 6. Select the diamond (which is your selective edit), and tap on color.
Step 7. Change your color by either adjusting the the temp, tint, or saturation or scroll all the way to the bottom and select the color of your choice! You can also make changes by altering the exposure, contrast, highlights, etc. under the light tab.
