REAL TALK! Are you giving yourself enough grace?
Last week I opened up to you guys on my Instagram post about how I had hit a wall in my creativity over the summer. I was feeling pretty down on myself for a while because there are sooo many other amazing creators out there who are constantly coming up with great new ideas and content, but comparison isn’t healthy and or helpful.
This past year I wasn’t the most present on social media. I was feeling uninspired and drained and it was hard to find the motivation to keep up with everything. Normally I would have beat myself up for that BUT i’ve realized that you can’t force creativity!
As an influencer, sometimes it’s hard to disconnect and take time for yourself. Personally, I put a lot of pressure on myself to have posts ready to go in advance. I always want to have a perfectly crafted caption and precise editing, but recently I started giving myself a little bit of grace and I took a step back.
So, here are a few of the things i’ve been doing recently to get some of that creativity back WITHOUT any comparison:
1. Take a break.
Don’t force creativity! Instead, unplug and give your mind a break! Take your mind off of work by going for a walk, working out, reading a book, taking a bath, hanging out with family and friends, or getting yourself a glass of wine because you deserve it!
2. Find new and unexpected ways to gain inspiration!
Find inspiration by browsing Pinterest, making a vision board, listening to music, or watching a movie or a music video!
One of my favorite ways to find inspiration is by creating different save folders in Instagram! This is true hack to when it comes to content creating. If your ever stuck on what you should pose, wear or what your inspiration is for your photo, you can just go into your saved folders and select from there. I like to have a different folder for captions, winter content, IGTV, travel and so on.
I also always use Pinterest to get photo ideas. Visual inspiration is the easiest way for me to visualize what I want my content to look like by creating moods boards before a shoot, so I have something to refer back to.
Another thing I love to do is go for a walk around my neighborhood! You never know when creativity will strike! Sometimes a spot you walk past every single day will all of a sudden stand our inspire you!
3. Create just to create!
As an influencer, blogger, photographer, or other creative sometimes we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to create the perfect content and it can take the fun out of creating. We need to remember to find joy in what we do! Go out and take photos of pretty scenery, paint, learn a TikTok dance and DON’T post it! Whatever it is, remember that at the end of the day you’re doing what you love so stop stressing and just have fun with it!
It’s inevitable to experience burnout sometimes in your career. Whether you are a blogger, influencer, photographer, business owner, or all of the above, it’s hard to constantly come up with fresh and unique content to put out. It’s normal to go through different cycles and it would be unrealistic to be on top of things 100% of the time but things always work out in the end!
For me, the changing season has me starting to feel that creative spark again and re-excited about my content and It feels good to be back!
But whether you’re at the top of your game or working on giving yourself some grace just remember that we are all unique and we are all traveling our own paths!
