Everybody wants healthy hair, but especially now! With winter coming to an end and spring time coming soon its time to start thinking about growing our hair out for summer! #mermaidlocks anyone?? Healthy hair is the key to being able to grow it out long. Here are a few of my favorite tips to keep your hair looking and feeling great all year long!
Table of Contents
1. Wash less often!
You’ve probably heard by now that washing your hair too often isn’t good. Shampoos can strip the natural oils right out of your hair, which makes your scalp produce even more oil. This creates a vicious cycle where you have to keep washing more and more and more.
I know sometimes it’s hard but get yourself a good dry shampoo (my favorite is The Champ because its safe and plant based meaning no propane or butane) and learn to restyle your hair in between washes!
2. Turn your heat WAY down!
Don’t skimp on good hot tools! Cheap tools will require you to use higher heat and more time when styling. One reason why I love the T3’s whirl trio is that it only takes me about 10 minutes to do my hair and the curls last alllll day long!
3. Always use a heat protectant!
If you must use heat ALWAYS use a heat protectant! Preferably one with no silicons. They’re not always easy to find but worth the extra effort. If you’re using silicon based some heat protectants, you might as well just melt plastic wrap on your strands… no thank you!
My favorites are the Studio One line because they’re not only silicon free but they’re all naturally based and promote healthy hair growth!! if you use medium to low heat on your hair they have a blow out cream that reduces styling time and prolongs the look of your blow out! And if you use high heat they have a heat protectant spray that provides high heat (450°F/232°C) and UV protection to prevent against damage and breakage while also repairing past damage!
4. Use a silk pillowcase!
This is one of those “treat yo’self “ tips that’s actually just as good for your skin as it is for your hair. Breakage happens while you sleep so a silk pillow case is the best way to protect your strands while you snooze!
5. Get yourself a wet brush
Always use a wet brush or a wide toothed comb after you get out of the shower. Wet hair breaks easily and tanning any old brush through wet hair is bad news.
7. You Are What You Eat
Just like your skin, your hair needs proper nutrition to look its best! Food that is rich in vitamins, whole grains, healthy fats, and amino acids are your best bet for a healthy hair diet! Some of my favorite healthy hair super foods include salmon, eggs, sweet potatoes, avocados, nuts, oatmeal, and berries
8. Let Your Hair Down
Styling your hair with hot tools isn’t the only way to damage your locks. Constantly wearing your hair up in a ponytail (especially if its too tight) can cause some serious damage! Do yourself a favor and let your hair down every once in a while!
6. And lastly, healthy hair starts from the scalp!
I use Rejuvenique Oil for overnight hot oil treatments to combat dryness and overproduction of oil (yep! fight oil with oil!) and to protect and nourish my hair from the inside out!
I hope these tips help. you to keep your hair healthy and strong! Lmk below if you have any tips for healthy hair! And if you want more hair care tips and tricks check out some of my other guides here!
